Visualize Your Smile Before Treatment is Performed
When seeking to enhance the beauty of your smile, you likely want input when determining the final outcome. Imagine being able to decide what your teeth will look like in regards to shape, color, and appearance in your mouth—then be able to visualize it in person before treatment even begins. All this is possible with the help of state-of-the-art technology called Digital Smile Design (DSD). Our office features this technology to help you plan your cosmetic treatments so you can get the smile of your dreams.
A New Smile to Enhance Your Entire Face
DSD is commonly combined with veneer treatment, which uses ultra-thin covers to mask imperfections, but can also be used for other treatments like dental crowns. We look at your entire face when designing cosmetic restorations with DSD, including how your lips, cheeks and eyes match with your new smile. This helps us plan how your teeth will appear when you perform everyday activities like talking, laughing and smiling. During a DSD procedure, we will capture a video of your face as you tell us what you would like to change about your smile. Then we will use this video to help design the ideal teeth to compliment your entire face. This process allows us to show you images of what your new teeth will actually look like before you begin any treatment. If at any time you want to alter an aspect of your new teeth, we can make changes now, before the final pieces have been made.

Stages of Digital Smile Design
Patient with severely worn teeth. Initial evaluation photo in beginning to understand what individualized treatment is needed for this person’s specific dental needs.
Teeth together shows how the lower teeth have moved up to stay in contact with the wearing upper teeth.
Analyzing the extent of wear. A good patient communication photo in assessing what has occurred over time.
Analyzing gum levels which show tooth eruption patterns in response to tooth wear.
Idealized golden proportions to be used as a template in our case.
Building templates to visualize idealized tooth length, width and position utilizing correct tooth proportions that drive a natural appearance.
Visualizing those templates within the frame of the smile.
Patient sees digitally, prior to beginning treatment, what our plan for their transformation looks like, and they give feedback about desired shape and color of the teeth.
Additional analysis by the patient and doctor collectively, regarding the proposal as seen within the framework of the smile. This final blueprint is what we ask the lab to follow when making the crowns/veneers.
